AURIGNAC
Our local town and centre of the Canton at 15 minutes drive. A fortified
position destroyed in the 12th century
in the war against the Cathars, but preserving the calm and charm of a
medieval town with fine houses and courtyards
of all ages, a 15thC church and a viewpoint from the old castle tower.

ALAN
Small and handsome village on the next hilltop, with a fine centre square
and classic local style bell tower wall.
Palais des Évêques de Comminges - founded in 1270 on old
fortifications surrounded by a moat,
this fine stone palace is famous for its carved cow over the renaissance
doorway,
its spiral stone stair and main reception room - open to the public. Art
Exhibitions in the vaults.

Dame de Lorette
18thC hospital with finely restored chapel and cloister, open to the public,
and with regular concerts,
and self catering accomodation.

MONTMAURIN
20 m : Remains of a Roman Villa from 350 AD, and close to the Gorges of
the River Save and the caves of Lespuge
SAINT-BERTRAND
de Comminges
40m : excavations of the largest Roman Town of the region, now in the
shadow of a beautifully intact medieval town,
itself dominated by a grand cathedral with famous carved choir stalls
and organ from the 16th C, all set into the mountains.
Close to the basilica of Saint-Just and the underground caves of Gargas.
Festival
of music in the summer.
CAZERES
20 minutes: Saturday Market, restaurants, fine bridge over the Garonne.
Centre for water sports on the river : hire of canoes and kayaks.
SAINT
LIZIER
30m : Another quiet and beautiful medieval town with a museum in an old
Bishops Palace and fine cathedral and cloister.
Springtime music festival.
SKI-ING
Le Mourtis : 30m : Small ski station with chair lift also in the summer.
Luchon, Superbagnères - Télécabine all year from
the town to the ski station at 1800M - from there superb views
and walks in the summer months, and numerous chair lifts and ski pulls
in the winter.

1hr : Many simple and grand walks for one days outing or more, we are

TOULOUSE
1hr : The old centre, famous for its rose red brick has many fine museums,
markets, cathedrals, shops, restaurants,
theatres, etc. Also the ' Cité de l'Espace' museum.

1hr 30 : Pilgrimage centre, Basilica and cave where St Bernadette had
her visions.
